Grass fed beef is beef in its natural state before it is "finished" on grain, usually corn, in the feed lot process. Our animals are not confined --they feed only on native grasses supplemented with natural plant proteins in the winter and are raised as "naturally" and as stress free as possible. We avoid antibiotics and rely on vaccine, parasite control and sound nutrition to maintain a healthy herd.
The health benefits of grass fed beef are numerous. Grass fed beef is typically lower in fat than normal commercially raised grain fed animals. Studies have shown that grass finished beef contains up to 50% less saturated fat, and as much as six times less total fat than grain finished beef. Studies have shown that the level of CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) a cancer fighting fatty acid is up to 5 times higher in grass fed beef than in traditional beef. Grass fed beef is also higher in Omega 3--a fatty acid which is essential for human growth and development. Omega 3 originates in the green leaves of growing plants, so it makes sense that grass fed beef would have higher levels than commercially raised factory beef.
